Make No Promises

September 2006

Dear Readers,

A couple of exciting things are happening in September.

Beginning September 12th I'll be teaching a four-week online class, The Art of Writing Jokes. (Yes, I really do a little standup comedy on the side.) This basic joke writing class is offered through the Orange County Chapter of Romance Writers of America. You can enroll at www.occrwa.com  I expect to have a lot of fun with the class and my students will be able to wow their friends and family members with jokes that actually make them laugh.

Not to be outdone by his wife (that's me), my husband Charles Lobb is now the proud author of Torrance Airport, a definitive history of our local airport. With more than two hundred never-before-published photographs, Chuck takes the reader back to the days of World War II (and before) when P-38 fighter pilots trained at the small air field south of Los Angeles.

To research this book, Chuck spent many hours searching military archives, attended P-38 squadron reunions (with me in tow) and visited the air base in England (also with me in tow) where many of the crews were assigned after their stateside training.

If you are in the area, Chuck will be signing his book at the Torrance Airport General Aviation Facility, 3301 Airport Dr., Sunday, September 10th, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Torrance Airport by Charles Lobb is available in bookstores now (probably by special order in most areas) or can be ordered from www.Amazon.com. The book makes a perfect gift for both aviation and World War II buffs.

If I still had children at home, September would bring a third exciting event - the kids going back to school. So I'll wish all you moms a few quiet hours each day. Enjoy them. Christmas vacation will arrive all too soon.

Happy reading.
