February 2007
Dear Readers and Friends,
Despite the fact that our friends in the Midwest and
East are experiencing a serious cold snap as I write this, spring is almost
here. Daffodils and crocus will reappear, I promise. In my part of the country,
Southern California, March will also bring with it two exciting events that I’ll
be attending.
Linda Lael Miller, author of more than 70 best-selling
novels, is a keynote speaker at the March 3rd A Day of Authors
sponsored by Alpha, a professional Woman’s Auxiliary to the Assistance League of
Fullerton. It’s a terrific event that features authors who write in several
genres and it sells out every year. The proceeds benefit a variety of charitable
organizations.
Not to be outdone, the Friends of Shannon Center at
Whittier College host a Meet the Authors affair on March 31st.
Shirlee Taylor Haizlip, author of the memoir Garden of Our Dreams, and
Carolyn See, author of the novel There Will Never Be Another You, will
share keynoting duties.
Granted I have good friends who are involved in the
organization of both of these special events, and I’ve been a guest author in
the past, but supporting these programs and the participating authors is worth
both my time and money. I am, after all, a reader as well as a writer.
My guess is there is a similar event in your
neighborhood. Check it out, attend and support the authors whose books you love.
Happy reading.
